Mass shooting in San Bernardino: What we know now
Two people wearing military-style gear opened fire Wednesday at a Southe Califoia social services center, killing at least 14 people and wounding more than a dozen others, authorities said.
Hours later, police hunting for the attackers riddled a black SUV with gunfire several miles away from the scene of the mass shooting. After the gunfire, one person lay motionless in the street with a gun nearby, and officers appeared to remove a second person from the vehicle.
At a press conference late Wednesday, authorities confirmed that two suspects, Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik, were killed in the shootout with police. A third person was detained for questioning, but it is not known if the person had any connection to the shootings. Police appeared to be confident that the two deceased suspects were responsible for the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not been able to determine a motive for the shootings, saying that terrorism had not been ruled out. Local media outlets suggested that the incident may have resulted from a workplace dispute.
