Lana Rae Meisner: Wife of Eagles bassist shot dead

TMZ reported Lana Rae Meisner, 63, was found dead in her Studio City home on Sunday, 1.5 hours after she called 911 to report a domestic disturbance. Police visited the home but left shortly after.

Not long after that, 69-year-old Meisner reportedly called police to report his wife had been shot in the head.

The ex-bassist told police his wife shot herself or was killed by accident as she searched for something in the closet, according to the site. He also said she had locked herself in a room before shooting herself.

“Randy seemed to be in shock and wasn’t even able to acknowledge that Lana Rae was dead from a gunshot wound,” a law enforcement source said.

Police didn’t immediately identify the victim or suspect.

TMZ reported Meisner told police his wife was waving a BB gun and “acting erratically.”

The next moing, he was reportedly taken to hospital after “acting in an altered state”.

RadarOnline reports investigators will review surveillance footage.

Meisner left the Eagles in 1977 and reportedly had been struggling with a bipolar condition.

In January 2015, Meisner’s friend, James Newton, was granted temporary conservatorship of the troubled singer after he threatened to kill himself and others.

“[Randy] threatened to gun everyone down with an AK-47,” Newton’s lawyer Troy Martin told the court, citing medical records, according to the New York Daily News.

Newton claimed Meisner threatened hospital staff, but wasn’t carrying a gun at the time.

According to Martin, Meisner had been treated for alcoholism and took medication for a “mood disorder.”

The report added that Meisner’s wife was in denial about the rocker’s mental health issues. They had been married for more than 20 years.
