Denver: Judge Allows Courtney Bowles To Call Daughters
Courtney Bowles

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- A former Loveland high school educator accused of having sex with a 16-year-old student will not be allowed to see her daughters -- she can only talk to them by phone.

Courtney Bowles, 31, asked a judge on Thursday to amend her bond so she could be allowed to see her daughters.

Bowles was charged with sexual assault, sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

As a condition of her $50,000 bond, she was ordered to stay away from anyone under the age of 18, including her children.

During the hearing on Thursday, Bowles cried as her attoey argued that having no contact with with their mom was hurting Bowles' young girls.

Defense attoey Derek Samuelson said Bowles has no prior criminal history and has always been very involved in her daughters' lives. He said she is no risk to her children.

He asked the judge to allow Bowles to see her children in the presence of her husband at the family's southeast Fort Collins home. When the judge rejected that request, Samuelson then asked that Bowles be allowed to see her girls under the supervision of a child advocate.

Deputy District Attoey Renee Doak argued against visitation, saying, “We don’t know what is going on in that home."

She said there should be no visitation until a Parental Risk Assessment (PRA) can be done, something not typically done until after a plea has been entered in a case.

Judge Stephen Howard allowed Bowles contact with her daughters, but Bowles' husband must listen in on the phone calls she has with the girls, and the calls can't be longer than 30 minutes every other day.

Bowles worked at Mountain View High School as instructional coach to teachers.

She was arrested on Jan. 21 when a police officer spotted Bowles, naked, on top of a teen in the back seat of a parked car. The 16-year-old who was caught naked in a car with Bowles is a sophomore at Mountain View High School.

Bowles must also remain 100 feet from the high school, and is banned from contacting the boy or his family.

She has been married for eight years, according to her Facebook page. Her husband, Justin Bowles, held her hand and accompanied her to court on Thursday.

Bowles is due back in court on Feb. 24.
