Illegal Immigrant Jose Reyes-Alfaro Charged with 1st-Degree Murder in Manassas, Va. Crimes
MANASSAS, Va. - Three people are dead and three more have been wounded in Manassas. According to police and charging documents, the assailant used a .38 caliber handgun until he ran out of bullets. Then he used a machete.
Jose Reyes-Alfaro has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder. According to Manassas Police Chief Douglas Keen, the suspect was in the United State illegally.
"In 2002, [Reyes-Alfaro] was seen before a federal immigration judge," Chief Keen told a packed news conference. "And was put out for deportation."
Reyes-Alfaro has apparently avoided contact with local police since 2008. That year, Manassas Police entered into an agreement with federal authorities to tu over any suspects who are subject to deportation.
The mayhem in Manassas began around 7:15 p.m. Thursday. Four people were shot inside (and on the front lawn) of a townhouse at 9213 Hood Road. 56-year-old Brenda Ashcraft was pronounced dead on the lawn. 37-year-old William Ashcraft died en route to a local hospital. A 34-year-old woman and a 15-year-old teenage girl were wounded.
As police were still responding at the first shootings, they got a call to respond to another incident less than a half mile away. Julio Cesar Ulloa, 48, was shot to death in the bedroom of a home at 9625 Brent Street. A 77-year-old woman was discovered suffering significant cutting wounds to the head at that location. A police charging document says she was slashed by a machete and "the accused advised [detectives] that he shot [Ulloa] with the last bullet in his .38 revolver."
Neighbors say the suspect lived at the Hood Road house, and that Ulloa was a friend of the suspect. The wounded elderly lady may have been Ulloa's landlady.
Jose Reyes-Alfaro is being held without bond.
