George Zimmerman wants Florida to pay his $300,000 legal fees
George Zimmerman allegedly wants the state of Florida to pay up to $300,000 in defense expenses for him.

GEORGE Zimmerman wants taxpayers to foot up to $300,000 of his hefty legal bill used to successfully defend himself in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

NBC News reports Zimmerman and his legal team believe they are entitled to a refund because Zimmerman was found not-guilty in Martin's murder.

Florida law states that a defendant who's acquitted isn't liable for costs associated with their case, subject to a judge or clerk's approval.

Shawn Vincent, a spokesman for Zimmerman's legal team, said the request to the state of Florida is likely to be between $200,000 and $300,000 which was spent on expert witnesses and court reporters for depositions, travel and other similar expenses. It won't cover attoey fees.

However the team reportedly expects the Judicial Administrative Commission, which will be responsible for the payout, to "throw up roadblocks".
