George H.W. Bush serves as official witness at lesbian same-sex wedding in Maine
SAME-sex marriage has received the significant and startling support of former Republican President George Bush, who has witnessed a wedding between two woman in Maine.
The 41st president took to his wheelchair to sign a set of documents proclaiming the marriage of Bonnie Clement and Helen Thorgalsen.
The couple then posted evidence of his decree on Facebook: “Getting our marriage license witnessed!”.
The former president’s representative Jim McGrath has confirmed Mr Bush and his wife Barbara were at the wedding on Sunday.
”They were private citizens attending a private ceremony for two friends,” he said.
Same-sex marriage became legal in Maine in December last year.
