Florida prosecutors bill Casey Anthony $140k

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Florida State Attoey's Office wants Casey Anthony to cover the costs incurred in the prosecution of her trial that, totaling more than $140,000, according to a report.

On Thursday, prosecutors filed 281 pages of documents detailing a range of expenses related to her trial. The list included airfares and hotel accommodation for witnesses and payments made to experts. The whole bill totaled to $141,362, reports Fox News.

The State Attoey's Office wants Anthony to pay for its prosecution and investigative costs and intends to address the matter at a hearing Aug. 25.

The $141,362 bill does not cover all expenses associated with Anthony's case.

Earlier in the week, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said it spent $71,939 on investigating leads of false sightings of Caylee. Investigators for the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation spent $10,645 looking for Caylee Anthony, tracking the calls of George and Cindy Anthony, Casey Anthony's ex-boyfriends Tony Lazzaro and Jesse Grund, and tracing Casey Anthony's movement through her cellphone records, reports CBS affiliate WKMG.

The court cost of acquitting Casey Anthony of murder and child abuse is $269,138, but the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the State Attoey's Office have not yet filed claims.

Anthony was found not guilty of manslaughter and murder in the 2008 death of her daughter Caylee on July 5. She was found guilty of four lesser charges of lying to police. She was released from jail on July 17. Her whereabouts are not publicly known.

Her attoeys are expected to fight the state on the costs when this goes to court next month, reports the station.

If Anthony's attoeys can get Judge Belvin Perry to appeal her misdemeanor conviction for lying to investigators, she will have been acquitted of all charges and the defense could then bill the state for defense costs.
