Fifth-grade teacher Lisa Davis investigated for sexually molesting 10-year-old boy in her class

OTHELLO, Wash. -

Othello police are recommending molestation charges be brought against an elementary school teacher for alleged unprofessional behavior involving a 10-year-old boy.

Othello Police Chief Alvia Dunnagan said Monday that on May 30, school officials reported to police there was unprofessional behavior involving Lisa Davis, a fifth grade teacher at Scootney Springs Elementary School, and a 10-year-old boy. Police conducted a month-long investigation and recommended to prosecutors Davis be charged with two counts of first-degree child molestation.

Dunnagan confirmed the incidents happened both on and off campus and police believe only one victim was involved.

Davis resigned from her position at Scootney Springs several weeks ago.

According to a database of teachers in Washington on the Kitsap Sun website, Davis, 48, is a full-time employee at Scootney Springs with an annual salary of $61,721 as of the 2011 school year. She has more than 14 years of certificated experience as a teacher.

In the Sept. 17, 1997, edition of the Othello Outlook, it reported that Davis completed her education at Central Washington University. She later received a master's degree in 2006. The Outlook article reported that as of 1997 she was married with three children.

Davis was so highly regarded as an educator that she was recognized with a "Teacher of the Month" award by another local media outlet in the spring of 2012, with administrators heaping praise on her for work with students, according to a March 2012 article in the Othello Outlook.

It's now up to the Adams County prosecutor to file charges against Davis.
