Falmouth Woman Monica Mitchell arraigned in teen's death

FALMOUTH - A Mashpee woman accused of killing an East Falmouth teen in a crash Friday night faced a judge in Falmouth District Court on Tuesday.

The Cape Cod Times reports 42-year-old Monica Mitchell was arraigned on charges of motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident causing death, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation, according to court records.

Mitchell was allegedly drunk on Friday night when her white Ford Explorer hit 16-year-old Jack Pearsall, of East Falmouth, as he walked down Old Bastable Road near Mashpee High School. Pearsall was taken to a Boston hospital that night and died Monday afteoon.

The motor vehicle homicide charge, a felony, carries a mandatory sentence of one year in jail and a maximum sentence of 15 years. Mitchell is scheduled for an Aug. 10 pretrial hearing.
