A STICKER depicting a woman tied up in the back of a truck has caused controversy after some motorists mistook it for a real kidnapping.

The sticker was attached to the tailgate of a truck belonging to an employee of Hoet Signs, a marketing and advertising company in Waco.

The company, which specialises in display ads, attached the sticker to see how realistic the optical illusion was, the owner Brad Kolb told local TV network KWTX.

“I wasn't expecting the reactions we got, nor do we condone this by any means,” Mr Kolb told KWTX.

“It was more or less something we put out there to see who noticed it.”

Mr Kolb said the kidnap picture had gaered a lot of extra attention and business but that there had also been a number of complaints.

A viewer’s poll conducted KWTX found most people felt the sticker was in bad taste.

Some viewers said they called police when they saw the sticker, fearing the woman was in real trouble.

One viewer told the station: “Abduction or any violence against women is not funny or cute.”
