Detroit Man Jomiah Washington Charged in Murders of Daborah Young, and Unborn Baby

DETROIT - She was 19 years old, but had the mental capacity of a 14-year-old. She was also five months pregnant, and now the father of that unbo child is charged with killing her and his baby.

"It's just so sad how a person can do such a devilish thing. I just don't understand it," said China Balfour, the victim's aunt.

21-year-old Jomiah Washington is accused of killing 19-year-old Daborah Young. She was five months pregnant with his child when police say Washington shot young in the head, dumped her body in a wooded area in Brightmoor and set her body on fire.

"This is a prime example of Michigan actually (needing) the death penalty. Just something like this, they don't deserve to live," Balfour said.

Young's family last saw her on May 28. They say Washington had threatened Young, who had special needs and only had the mental capacity of a 14-year-old.

When she disappeared, her family filed a missing person report, and on June 2, her body was found, identified only by her tongue piercing and what was left of a tattoo.

"They but her body. We couldn't even have a funeral to see her body. We couldn't even see her for the last time," said Shequira Young, the victim's cousin.

"(You) couldn't even imagine what was going through her mind at the time when she realized this person actually set her up to kill her," Balfour told FOX 2's Amy Lange.

"These young people, they need to get their lives together because it's not worth it. It's just not worth it," said Lori Young, another aunt of the victim.

Loved ones say Young had just had an ultrasound and leaed her baby was a boy. She named him Pierre.

They also say Washington didn't want her to have the child and so he killed her and their unbo baby. He's being held without bond and faces life in prison if convicted.
