City Official William Stewart Pleads Not Guilty To DUI
LACONIA, N.H. -- A Laconia city official is facing impaired driving charges.
William Stewart, the city's new code enforcement officer, was arraigned Thursday on a charge of second offense driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs.
The 53-year-old Stewart, who did not have an attoey in court with him, pleaded not guilty. The Citizen reports that he was released on $1,000 personal recognizance bail and a trial was scheduled for Aug. 30.
Laconia police arrested Stewart on May 28 at 10:16 p.m. after stopping him on Weirs Boulevard.
Police said Stewart had a previous conviction of DWI in May 2010 in Ohio. Stewart, who has lived in the city for five months, previously lived in Dayton, Ohio.
