Career criminal William Bankston spends 99th spell in Mobile county jail in Alabama
A career criminal has clocked up his 99th stint in prison to become a city's most-jailed man.
William Bankston, 47, clocked up the terms of imprisonment over a 30-year period in Mobile, Alabama, stretching back to his teenage years.
Each time the felon has been booked into Mobile County Metro Jail for a variety of charges including drunkenness and domestic violence.
His latest spells inside, ordered during 2010, saw Bankston accused of third-degree domestic violence and resisting arrest.
However the majority of the ageing con's jail terms have been as a result of drinking in public.
In a newspaper interview following Bankston's 97th visit to prison in February last year, he said he believed he had been in prison more times than court records show.
According to the records, Bankston allegedly accosted a 69-year-old man, 'striking him about his neck and shoulders with an unknown object.'
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Bankston on a third-degree domestic violence charge. He was released from his 98th spell in jail the next day after he made $300 bail.
Later, the District Attoey’s Office declined to prosecute the case, according to the documents.
On April 4, Bankston purportedly threatened to kill a 46-year-old man, 'causing him to fear for his safety,' according to court documents.

Deputies again arrested Bankston, according to the documents and charged him with third-degree domestic violence and resisting arrest, and booked him into jail.
He was released from jail on April 5 after making $800 bail, but the case was also never prosecuted.
