Briana Travis: Brunette teacher jailed for having sex with student

A MUSIC teacher who repeatedly had sex with a 13-year-old boy in school has been jailed for 14 years.

Briana Travis, 34, was caught out after the victim’s parents discovered “alarming” texts on his phone.

Some of the sex acts between the pair took place in school during the day, prosecutor Jason Grindel said.

The teacher, who taught at Webster Middle School in the Chicago suburb of Waukegan, admitted one charge of sexual assault.

But the court heard Travis had an “inappropriate sexual relationship” between June 1 and October 15 last year.

She has been sentenced to 14 years in prison and must serve at least 85% of her sentence before being eligible for release.

She must also register as a sex offender for the rest of her life.

Eleven similar charges and one of aggravated sex abuse were dropped in a plea deal to avoid a 180-year sentence.

The victim’s family reportedly agreed to the sentence.

The victim’s dad said: “It’s kind of disheartening. When you send your kids to school you feel they should be safe, male or female.”

An education aide said after Travis’ arrest: “The details of these allegations are abhorrent.”
