Blind Boston Man Luis Marquez Facing Murder Charge
BOSTON -- A blind man charged with fatally stabbing a friend from the Perkins School for the Blind is headed to court for a competency hearing and possible trial.
Prosecutors say 29-year-old Luis Marquez beat and stabbed Terri Weer in his Boston apartment in June 2008.
A competency hearing is scheduled for Wednesday. If Marquez is found competent to assist in his own defense, a bench trial on a murder charge is expected to get under way in Suffolk Superior Court.
The 56-year-old Weer worked at the Watertown-based Perkins school.
Marquez's brother has said Luis Marquez worked at the Perkins school and had been treated for depression and bipolar disorder.
