‘Respected’ math teacher Brenda Pawelek had sex with student, avoids jail

A former “respected” math teacher who had sex with an underage student on two occasions has escaped a prison sentence.

Brenda Pawelek, 44, of George West, Texas, -- who was at first charged with two counts of sexually assaulting a minor -- recently pleaded guilty to engaging in an improper relationship with a student.

“This unfortunate event represents the worst type of nightmare for any school,” school Supt. Ty Sparks said, according to the San Antonio Express News.

Court was told that it was Sparks who first heard rumblings of an illicit romance. When Sparks discovered 17 pages of raunchy Facebook Messenger screenshots shared between the two, he called cops.

The victim told detectives he had sex twice with Pawelek. She was arrested in July 2015.

She had already resigned before she was arrested.

Pawelek will never teach again and was sentenced to seven years probation, must register as a sex offender and stay away from parks and schools, according to the Daily Star.

Brenda Pawelek, 44, who was initially charged with two counts of sexually assaulting a minor, confessed to engaging in an improper relationship with a student.

The pupil claimed they had sex twice during the school year in George West, Texas, where she was described as a "respected" maths teacher. 

Cops arrested Pawelek when the pair's raunchy message exchanges were discovered in July 2015.

The school's superintendent Ty Sparks alerted police after he found 17 pages of raunchy Facebook Messenger screen shots shared between the two.

She resigned shortly before her arrest.

Pawelek was given seven years probation after accepting a plea deal.

The 44-year-old, who will never teach again, was ordered to stay away from schools and parks.

When the scandal broke, Mr Sparks said: "This unfortunate event represents the worst type of nightmare for any school."

Pawelek must also sign the Sex Offenders' Register.
