Worker Leon Sax Killed When Wall Collapsed at Construction Site
HANOVER, Md. - Anne Arundel County officials say one construction worker was killed and another was injured when a 30-foot wall collapsed at the site of a casino being built at Arundel Mills Mall. Rescue workers were called to the site of the Maryland Live! Casino near the mall in Hanover on Friday moing.
Leon Ray Sax, 27, of Hanover, Pennsylvania was working inside of a construction lift when a concrete wall collapsed and trapped him under the wall. Sax was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man, Darbin Suazo-Jimenez, 25, of Manassas, Virginia, sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore.
An investigation will be conducted by Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH).
It was the second accident at the site this month. A worker was injured July 5 when a chunk of concrete fell on him.
The Maryland Live Casino has been under construction since early this year. When completed, it will be 300-thousand square feet, with 48-hundred parking spaces and that same number of slot machines. The casino developer, The Cordish Company, did not explain why the wall fell. The company did issue a statement offer condolence to the families of the dead and injured men.
