Tow Truck Driver Alan Dilley Killed; Hit-And-Run Driver Zachariah Dobler Arrested
ARVADA, Colo. -- A tow truck driver was struck and killed while he was helping emergency crews at the site of a crash early Sunday moing.
Alan Dilley was preparing to tow a vehicle near the intersection of West 58th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard at about 1:30 a.m., Arvada police spokeswoman Susan Medina said. The 41-year-old Wheat Ridge man was hit by a Nissan Rogue heading north on Wadsworth.
Medina said the driver of the Nissan -- 28-year-old Zachariah Dobler of Lakewood -- continued northbound. He was stopped and arrested minutes later near West 64th Avenue and Wadsworth.
Dilley -- who worked for Connolly’s Tow Truck -- was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police were investigating whether Dobler was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Medina said.
The northbound and southbound lanes of Wadsworth were closed near 58th until about 7 a.m. while officers investigated the crash.
