Disturbing claims: Lucas Barnes (left), 25, and 22-year-old Kathleen Peacock (right), have been charged with child abuse and manufacture of meth after they allegedly left their two-year-old son to die in an overheated room

A Missouri couple have been charged in the death of their two-year-old son who police say was left alone in a room with a heater tued on for more than 36 hours while his parents were binging on methamphetamine.

Lucas Russell Baes, 25, and 22-year-old Kathleen Peacock were charged with felony child abuse and manufacture of meth after an autopsy found that their son, Braydon Baes, succumbed to hyperthermia, or overheating.

St Charles Country prosecutor Tim Lohmar said the toddler was placed in his crib on Friday, and it was not until 38 hours, at around 11am on Sunday, that his parents finally went to check on him and found him unresponsive.

Paramedics who were called to the scene determined that the little boy had been dead for some time, according to court records cited by St Louis Post-Dispatch.

For the entire day-and-a-half, a space heater was running in Braydon's room in the back of his parents' trailer, and the appliance had no thermostat to determine when it got too hot.

According to police, Baes and Peacock’s trailer in the Elm Point Mobile Home Village doubled as a meth lab, and the couple allegedly spent most of the weekend getting high, reported the station KTVI

Officers later found materials used in the production of meth in a trash can, the probable cause statement said.

Lohmar called Braydon's death 'a crime of neglect', saying that Peacock and Lucas heard their son's cries but did nothing to help him.

'Heartless': Peacock (left) and Baes, seen right with his son as an infant, heard Braydon make noises but did nothing to help, according to prosecutors

The court records stated that Peacock told investigators she heard noises coming from her son’s room and knew she should check on him but did not.

An autopsy conducted on Braydon found that the two-year-old was 'generally malnourished and very thin', and that he had not eaten anything for at least two days prior to his death.

The medical examiner ruled that the cause of death was hypothermia due to extreme heat, which would have caused Braydon 'extreme discomfort and difficulty breathing as he died,' the report stated.

Lohmar also revealed on Tuesday that Ms Peacock is currently pregnant with another child. Ms Peacock already had been facing a child endangerment charge for allegedly driving drunk with her son in the car back in August.

The prosecutor described the couple's mobile home as 'uninhabitable', saying that officers who entered the residence Sunday came upon feces smeared about and piles of dirty dishes.

The trailer has since been condemned by local officials.

Peacock and Baes were being held Tuesday on $100,000 bail each.
