Dr. Mario Heandez has been charged for allegedly assaulting female patients in three separate incidents, following an investigation by detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit.

He's at least the second area doctor this year to be charged with sexually assaulting patients during exams. Earlier this year, another Charlotte doctor was charged in connection with dozens of alleged sexual assaults.

Heandez, 58,  has a family care practice.

On Nov 25, an adult female victim claimed in a police report that she went to his medical facility in the 800 block of Arrowood Road for a medical examination and was sexually assaulted.

On Nov. 30, a second adult female victim told police she had gone to the same facility for a medical examination and had also been sexually assaulted.

On Friday, a third adult female reported that she went to the same facility on May 6 for a medical examination. She said she was also sexually assaulted by Heandez, police said.

Detectives with the Sexual Assault Unit were notified of the incidents and launched an investigation, and Heandez voluntarily tued himself in to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office on Monday., under a $17,500 bond.

Heandez was charged with three counts of second second-degree sexual offense. He was accused of “forcible fondling” in two incidents detailed in police reports. In the third incident, he was accused of sexual assault with an object.
