Christine Taylor, 44, is charged with sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy at her home on New Year's Day

A 44-year-old female teacher has been charged with sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy at her home on New Year's Day.

Christine Taylor allegedly invited the child and his mother over to her house in Chicago suburb Naperville, Illinois, for pizza on Friday at 9pm.

She then told the mother she and the boy were going to walk the dog - but instead took him into her bedroom and sexually assaulted him, according to an affidavit.

But eventually, the mother realized, 'witnessed' the abuse, and another resident contacted police.

Taylor, who teaches at Jefferson Junior High School, was arrested later that evening.

She is being held on a $300,000 bond.

The boy is not a student at the school, State's Attoey Robert Berlin told the Chicago Tribune.

Explaining the gravity of the alleged offense, Berlin said in a statement: 'While the victim in this case was not a student at Jefferson Middle School, Ms Taylor, as a teacher, still holds a position of trust in the community.'
