Affluenza' teen Ethan Couch and mother detained in Mexico
Ethan Couch, the teen who was sentenced to only probation after he got behind the wheel drunk and crashed, killing four people in 2013, has been detained in Mexico, Texas authorities said Monday.
Couch was wanted by Tarrant County, Texas, authorities for allegedly violating his probation.
He disappeared, along with his mother, after a video was circulated that allegedly showed Couch at a party with alcohol. If authentic, the video could provide proof he violated his probation and possibly prompt a judge to put him behind bars.
US Marshals had previously offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information that led to the arrest of Couch
Couch was 16 years old when he crashed in Texas and killed four people. He pleaded not guilty and famously tied his defense to his privileged upbringing. His attoey claimed he suffered from "affluenza." He was convicted and sentenced to 10 years' probation.
Federal authorities have been searching for Couch for weeks. He and his mother were found near Puerto Vallarta on Mexico's Pacific coast and were expected to be tued over to U.S. authorities.
